Open Sourcerer

Open Sourcerer was a 2D platformer where players created and customized their spells in JavaScript.

Platforms
Linux, PC, macOS

Open Sourcerer was intended as a 2D platformer where you used JavaScript to control and customize your spells. Players would learn the basics of programming in JS in a safe, sandboxed environment with a mix of traditional APIs and custom spell dependencies - the building blocks of your offensive and defensive abilities. Solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and build your own abilities in a story-rich platforming environment. No prior programming experience is necessary.

This is a dead, partially vibe-coded game. We are releasing it in its current state of completion for free.

We have two key takeaways for other devs:

• Computer science education requires a human element.

• Vibe coding can quickly turn a strong project into a nightmare.
